Anyone who has been a reader of my blog for any length of time, or familiar with my work, knows that I keep coming back to my neck of the woods, Lancaster County, PA for inspiration. So, it dawned on me that I just needed to do a series of Lancaster County Quilts.
Minimalistic, abstract quilts that try to capture
the feelings and impressions that fill me as I travel around here,
and the deep affection that I have for it.
"Mohns Hill" is the first of these quilts.
Named after a local road, (which I plan on doing for all quilts in this series)
the appliquéd pieces draw on the off-kilter shapes of the old worn and weathered barns,
and the quilting reflects the beautiful landscape of rolling hills and plowed farm fields.
Made with assorted shot cottons, (including the woven selvages of some, as they were just too lovely to cut off) along with some homespuns and a pretty flower print, it also has a faced binding.

This is lovely, especially the quilting! This will be an interesting series. For me, inspiration is all about color and, right now, circles.
Loved reading about your inspiration. The quilting in your piece adds such a lovely dimension.
I gain inspiration from color and technique.
Lovely natural colours and texture! I definitely gain inspiration from the natural world. I'm about to make a second quilt inspired by the leaf and bark colours of gum trees from when we lived in Australia. But I also like to try out new approaches and just now I'm making quilts with olds shirts and jeans, enjoying all their wear and texture and colour variations.
Beautiful, peaceful, and lively at the same time. Your series inspired by the local journeys will be so YOU! The quilting lines portray the feel of rolling hills. It's quite a trick to do those by machine! Nicely done. My inspiration comes from old quilts, especially utility quilts. I look at old quilts whenever I get the chance.

Most of my inspiration comes from nature and architecture. Colors are always a part of the mix as are textures. I admire your photography and textile work and look forward to this series!
So peaceful! Victoria, you make the most precious things! I would say I am inspired by most everything I see. Sometime it is the texture and other times it is those crooked, imperfect lines around me in all things handmade.
