Inspiration is everywhere, and happily quilt ideas pop into my head like Jiffy Pop popcorn over a campfire.
This modern studio art quilt was inspired by the colors of yellow taxis cabs, school buses, roads and road signs, thus the name, "Drive".
I love the minimalist modern design and bright colors of this quilt. Makes me happy!
Drive measures 20" x 24" and is available in my Silly BooDilly Etsy shop.
I also would like to thank everyone who left a comment on my Wonky Star Tutorial, for the Bushfire Quilt Project. I am delighted that it was of help! I've put a link up to access it over on the side.
Have a delightful weekend everyone! xo

This is really great! I love it!
Oh my gosh! You have no idea how much I LOVE this one! Love the minimalist design & the colour. It's so beautiful. Wish somebody would buy it for me as a Valentine's Day present. I don't like my chances though...grumble grumble ;)
Hey speaking of yellow taxis, did you know that we have yellow taxis over here but they are not yellow? Crazy huh? They are called Yellow Taxis but they are bright orange!
This one is so incredibly bold! And just the color for the upcoming season. Love it!
It really does look like a taxi cab! How cute!
Hugs to Mo. Have a good Friday the 13th. I will. :)
I think this belongs in MOMA
I echo Charmaine's sentiments, MOMA indeed! I love the simplicity of this, with it's bright shock of yellow. What I find particularly striking about this piece is it really highlights your signature squiggly quilting, which I always admire in your pieces.
Awesome, awesome work Victoria!
I think I am at risk of posting the comment "now THIS is my favorite so far" every time you post a new quilt :) But this quilt sings to my love of yellow.
I really love this. It is minimalist, yet so very interesting at the same time. It is amazing.
It's a SUNNY drive! I love yellow, and I love this quilt. Very nice.
Great name and colors. I love how your minimalist quilts have so much interest.
You really refined and distilled an idea beautifully here. its lovely.
Victoria,
I impressed with all your modern and simple quilts. Could you tell me (I'm a beginner in quilting and sewing)from what source/ where should I learn that style? Thanks. (Sorry for asking here, I can't find your email)
Hi Henny,
I will try to email you, but to also answer your question here...
I make up all of my own quilts, as I have a hard time following patterns. I gather inspiration from everywhere, and pay a lot of attention to design in other areas of the art world, such as painting and furniture design. I work in an improvisational manner, and just try to think of color, line, texture and balance, (symmetrical and asymmetrical) and how they play off of each other. I am currently playing with the idea of explaining my process in a clearer instructional way, as well as showing some simple ways others, such as yourself, can start to branch out and play around with doing their own thing and not being intimidated by the design process.
xo Victoria
Oh - this one is so cool! I never thought of quilting and minalmalism together and it works really really well.
love the color!
I love your popcorn taxi cab inspiration reference.
this one is gorgeous, I love how well the name fits!
: )
such a lovely piece Victoria, I must ask...do you actually use any of your sewing, keep something for yourself or are you like me, the embroiderer without any embroidery!
Looks SO GOOD! Great approach and color direction. Also love your Jiffy Pop metaphor!
Just found your blog - I love the funky picture of your dog Mo and your flickr stream with the doily art - I work with doilies, too.
Why is Mo poorly - is he old? I have two dogs myself and one of them is 12 1/2 years old, quite old for a big dog (he is a german shepard size mix), but luckily he is very frisky still and our 6 year old border collie mix cheers him up when necessary!
I hope your doggy is going to be alright - they are dear members of the family aren´t they!
Kristen,
Mo, (whose full name is Molasses BooDill) has a cancerous sinus tumor which there is no known cure for. She is such a little trooper, and has hung on a lot longer then what was predicted. She was extremely ill in December, but pulled through, and now we really just take it day by day, grateful for each one. Thanks for your kind words. She is my best buddy, and I love her more then words can say.
love everythin about this post, the colour and all.
wish there were a number os posts like this live on web...
I think I am at risk of posting the comment "now THIS is my favorite so far" every time you post a new quilt :) But this quilt sings to my love of yellow.
Thank you for taking the time to let me know what you think.
There are a number of cookware brands on the market. I prefer and like circulon cookware as one of the best cookware sets brand for a number of reasons. Circulon cookware brand is classic. There ware are produced from aluminium which warms up rapidly and even, and all made of steel which maintains the heat better still. This is certainly one of the great features with circulon brand. Unlike Farberware cookware brand, it is affordable to buy.
