Another 8 to 18 inches of snow and ice is headed this way, and I am trying hard to find something positive in this oh, so very long and hard winter. If I don't, I fear I may go all Jack Nicholson-ish like from The Shining, (... Here's JOHNNY!!)
So, when the roads are clear for a few days between the storms, and I am driving back and forth from here to there, I look for signs of beauty, and I admit, they seem to be everywhere...
From the ice covered trees in that top photo,
(where the ice was so thick rainbow colors shot forth from the sunlight's reflection)
to the wonderful jolt of golden yellow against a blue sky
thanks to a packed corn crib along the side of the road, below.
I have been taking these photos on my not so great phone camera,
and posting them on my newly opened Instagram site.
And while the photo quality isn't great, I like the imperfection, and immediacy of it.
A quick, visual diary to remember the pleasant in a not so pleasant winter...
I wonder how much longer this barn will stand,
and find it's long endurance, touchingly endearing.
And this, above... a homestead tucked way down in a frozen valley.
I pass it several times a week, yet never noticed it until the last ice storm hit.
The weight of the ice bent the brush low,
allowing me a peak at a real life snow-globe that is usually well hidden away.
What a gift.
But I admit... I still want Spring!

Your photos are wonderful. My part of the world is so different to yours but there is beauty all around at all times of the year.
I'm in Northern Wisconsin, and I'm actually sorry for you! We're having a normal winter, a ton of snow, but nobody's losing power, and we're not getting the ice storms.
I'm probably going to regret saying that, come March.
But I'm wondering if the barn picture will be a runner some day.
Your pictures are breathtaking! You made winter seem beautiful and bearable through the lens of your camera. Thanks for sharing with us -- it makes me dread tomorrow's snowstorm a little less.

Great photos...glad you were able to get out for a while.
Just started snowing here and everything is already white...expecting 12+....ughers!:)
Stay warm!
Beautiful! We are iced in here in coastal NC, hopefully it will melt tomorrow.......last time it took 4 days before we could get out and drive again.
Happy Sewing
Beautiful photos of a snowy landscape that I don't experience here in Melbourne, Australia. We are going thru a very hot & dry Summer, with recent days ranging from 38c - 42c. Our gardens and the countryside are suffering from lack of rain, but as you say there is beauty to be found in every season.
Your photos are great and really show the loveliness all around. There is beauty in every one of them.
Here in England we have rain, rain, rain. Pretty much all day every day ... since September.
We were lucky here in northeast Ohio - we did not get any of the freezing rain and snow the hit the south and east coast. We have had snow on the ground for the last 7 weeks. This past weekend we got 3 more inches to add to the 12+ we have had this winter. It had been very cold but today it is suppose to get up to 36 degrees and the sun shinning. I keep hearing ice falling off the double wide trailer my office is in. Take care, stay warm and safe!
here around Boston we are being hammered by winter, too! I agree about the immediacy and roughness of the images... I think they add, rather than detract to the feel... very nice ones, here.
Lovely photos! Similar sights of beauty here in Chicago, if one is willing to brave the cold and look for them. Makes me want to brush off my old SLR camera and get out there again! Cheers, and thanks for sharing.
Oh man - the homestead picture is stunning! We've had so much snow here in the Northeast but I haven't found a scene as beautiful (and mysterious) as this. Thanks and take care, Byrd
