Design Inspiration
The sun came out today for a bit and I was able to get some slightly better photos of my new work, (thanks everyone for the very kind responses in the previous post!)
Also thought I would share what I wrote about the thinking and inspiration behind the work:
"Form and function are one"
- Frank Lloyd Wright
Lately, I have been increasingly drawn to and attracted to, mid century design. Especially architecture. I decided that I wanted to start a new series of art quilts that were both beautiful and functional. Objects, that if placed in a home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, would look like they belonged.
When I was a kid, my parents took my sister and me to see Frank Lloyd Wright's "Fallingwater", (picture above). I was so enthralled by what I was seeing, both on the exterior and the interior. All the rules were broken, and everything made perfect sense. One thing that's been on my "bucket list" for a long time is to take a trip from coast to coast, stopping along the way to visit as many of Frank's structures as I can! Wouldn't that be wonderful!?!

Beautiful work Victoria. Exquisitly made and I adore the colour combo.
I'm with you on the FLW inspiration....we have copy blue prints of some of his work on our walls.
I'm sorry that you can't pop over 'the pond' to visit the Festival of Quilts too!
Falling Water is still on my must-see list. I can see your admiration for this vision in this. Victoria, this is such a beautiful piece! I'm just so incredibly impressed with everything you do.!
I would love to see Falling Water.
The Oregon Garden is home to the Gordon House, the only Frank Lloyd Wright house in Oregon.

The home was going to be torn down, but was saved and moved the the Oregon Garden. It is now a museum/rental facility. If you do a coast to coast Wright tour, and make it to Oregon, let me know!
Well, you've certainly accomplished your goal!
I think Frank would love these!!!
This is gorgeous, Victoria! I'm glad you were able to get another picture, this one really shows it off! You do such beautiful work!
I'm not real familiar with Frank Lloyd Wright's work, but from the looks of the photo you posted, I would love to get more familiar. I love water, period. That's why I’d love to retire to the beach!
And yes, it would be wonderful to take a trip coast to coast...for anything! Can I come? :D
Hens teeth, the blue prints must be so wonderful! What a great thing to adorn your walls with. And yes, that "'pond" does get in my way from time to time!
Michelle, thanks you. With your incredible eye for design, and attention to detail, your praise means a lot to me.
H.D.D., thanks for the link, and I will most definitely let you know when I make it to Oregon!
Jaimee, I so hope he would approve, thank you for thinking so!
Sandra, hop on board! I would love your company! (And I dream of retiring to the beach, as well!)
Love seeing where your inspiration came from - this is a great piece and thanks for sharing the new photos!
Great idea to draw inspiration from these things. I have to say, I am also drawn to mid century- really everything these days.
The quilted piece looks wonderful and follows the inspiration nicely.
I did 'A' level art in 1967-9 when I was 18 and we had to do History of Architecture. We ogled pictures of falling water house' I recognised it immediatley. Thank you. Is there 'Bear Run' as well?
What a beautiful picture..and beautiful piece..When you think about
Wright breaking all the rules..don't you wonder who made the rules? They sure made a big mistake..
G'day from Oz. I came here from BubbleBabble and yes, Frank Lloyd Wright knew a thing or two!
Thanks for sharing your inspiration. It's always interesting to learn what inspires people. Can certainly understand why you're inspired by F.L.W. and I sure hope that you manage to take that trip along the coast one day soon :)
FLW is exactly who first came to mind when I saw this piece the other day. I love the arts and crafts movement.
