Play Time

I have quilts that need to be sewed, floors that need to be vacuumed and laundry that needs to be washed... so what am I doing?

Playing fabric designer.

I can't help it. The lure of Spoonflower has proved too powerful. The idea that I can draw my own designs, upload them to Spoonflower, and have it printed into my own fabric... How could I keep resisting? (Believe me I have tried!)


Now I am a complete freshman newbie when it comes to the school of computer illustration and all I have is Photoshop Elements, (the poor man's version of Photoshop.) But with a little bit of trial and error using the illustrating tools available, I came up with this retro barkcloth inspired design and liked it enough to place an order for a fat quarter, just to see what it will actually look like as fabric.


Stay tuned for the final printed fabric results, and heaven help me if I LIKE the results... the lure will be so strong to do it again, my floors may never get cleaned!

    Heh. I have resisted the allure so far, myself. But if yours turns out as great as I think it might... I may have to take the plunge myself.

    Or just live vicariously through you. ;)

    Love your design and I’m very curious to see the final fabric..!

    Your embroidered fiber art designs will look great as fabric too! And the school photo’s series... Oh my!! A new addiction is being born!

    Sounds like fun to me. I have not tried it yet and something tells me I better resist. I like your fabric but I would love to see your space spores on fabric. :-) Is that possible?

    You know you have my full-fledged support and enthusiasm! Get ready, my dear... you just opened one of those cans with all the lively, squiggly things that won't go back in because they're too busy trying to be free and eat up as much as they can. Love the design, of course. Very you!

    Hey Vic, If it makes you feel any better, my floors aren't clean either. A clean house is seriously overrated. (At least until you have company coming.) Enjoy!

    What a fantastic design. My daughter did a spoonflower fat quarter last year. I still have the piece of fabric--waiting for the perfect project. I secretly wish she went into textile design so she could design fabric just for me.

    I like it a lot, Victoria. I agree with Connie...your spores in print would be pretty cool, too.

    Ooh, love it! Anything bark cloth inspired is going to be good.
    And I echo the comments about the school photos as a fabric. Better than the matrioshka.

    I would never have guessed that you were a complete newbie at computer illustration judging by this design! This is so unbelievably awesome! Wow! Think of all the possibilites now!!! This is a fantastic new direction. Forget about the floors! Who cares about such things as boring housework. Not me!!! ;D

    Uh-Oh. I've been thinking about doing this, too, but thought I couldn't because I only have Photoshop Elements, and hardly know how to use it. Now I have no excuse! My dishes need to be done, but that never changes!

    I love your design and can't wait to see it on the fabric!
