I decided to skip my usual Friday "Everyday Pleasures" post today so that I could share with you the exquisitely pretty, pretty pincushion that I recently purchased from Karen, of Etsy's Contemporary Stitches and of the lovely blog Contemporary Embroidery.
I have been enamored of Karen's work for sometime now, and am thrilled to have a piece of it! This beautiful hand stitched silk pincushion features cutaway areas with bits of vintage embroidered textile peeking through!
I love the attention to detail!
And it's just as pretty on the reverse side!
And look at the beautiful gift that Karen included for me!
Darling handmade silk and vintage embroidered buttons!! I am in heaven! Thank you Karen, I will treasure your work forever!

Mount Gretna
We spent Sunday enjoying beautiful Mount Gretna, which is about a half hour from our home. I so want to live there!
Old shady trees, grassy slopes, a sandy beach and a cool, lovely lake. Perfection!
The bath house features a lovely big old porch with adirondack chairs. Perfect for sitting and relaxing with a good book!
Fun on a trapeze swing!
The Mount Gretna Community Building
The Jigger Shop, (Great ice cream!)
Mount Gretna Playhouse.
Look closely! There are dozens of enchanting cottages tucked everywhere amongst the trees!
Here is one such cottage.
I promise to post more Mount Gretna cottage pictures in my next post. (You will love them!)

Everyday Pleasures #11
A few days ago I posted about all of the bunnies in my yard.
One of the comments was from Hey Harriet, who suggested that I post some bunny photos from my yard for one of my Friday "Everyday Pleasures" posts.
Now, I have tried many times to get good pictures of my furry friends, but am never happy with the results. My photos don't do them justice, plus I never want to get too close to them, as I always wish for the bunnies to feel safe and never threatened at my home. When it comes to bunnies, "mi casa es su casa".
But I did make an effort to get a bit closer then usual with the camera, and I must say, my little friends were awfully good sports!
(We call this one "Stretch" as his legs are longer then the other bunnies!)
And before I hop off, here is today's "BooDilly's Daily Dilly" featured item: A 200 Year Advertising Pocket Calendar!
Because this is the "BooDilly's Daily Dilly" featured item, if you decide to purchase this Vintage Pocket Calendar from my BooDilly's Shop from July 18th to July 20th, 2008, I will refund you via PayPal, 10% of your purchase price for this item, plus 10% of your shipping price for this item! Giraffe Heads
Last summer I started using small scraps of old doilies, lace and embroidered bits from vintage textiles, and began sewing them together to create new works, such as the one shown above. For lack of a better name I simply call them "Reconstructed Doilies".
The fun part of this process was incorporating all the little motifs I could find, like the bird in the top photo...
and little embroidered flowers...
... and some blue giraffe heads!
If you would also like to have some vintage blue embroidered giraffe heads of your own, (20 to be exact!) today's your lucky day, because they are todays "BooDilly Daily Dilly" item!
If you purchase these 20 Vintage Embroidered Giraffe Head Applique Patches from my BooDilly's Shop from July 16th to July 17th, 2008, I will refund you via PayPal, 10% of your purchase price for this item, plus 10% of your shipping price for this item! 1000 Hearts, 1000 Thank You's
YAY! I received my 1000th heart yesterday for my Etsy shop The Silly BooDilly! I am delighted and just want to shout out a great big THANK YOU! to everyone who has been so lovely and kind to take the time to look at my work, and leave me this positive feedback. I sincerely appreciate it! Being an artist can be such a solitary pursuit, the positive affirmation of hearts and blog comments and such, helps keep me feeling connected, and gives me good fuel to keep pursuing my dreams. Thanks!
And here is today's "BooDilly's Daily Dilly":
Vintage Children's Activity Book with 103 Illustrations!
The only reason that I am offering up this children's activity book for sale is because I have two copies! I adore all of the illustrations found in this book! The cardboard cover of this "The New Book of FUN for Children" is a bit faded, and rather blah, That's why I am not bothering to show it) but inside, this book is chock full of wonderful illustrations! 47 pages with a total of 103 black and white illustrations!!! (Click on the photo's to see the images larger, they are super cute!)
Among the illustrations that were signed, I counted 16 illustrations done by the very famous Cobb Shinn including some that would fall into the "Black Americana" collectable arena. Several more were done by the 1940's comic book illustrator Harvey Fuller and some more by the illustrator Nelson White, who also did some comic book illustrations, among other types.
Since this is the "BooDilly's Daily Dilly" featured item of the day, if you decide to purchase this Vintage Children's Activity Book from my BooDilly's Shop today, July 9th 2008, I will refund you via PayPal, 10% of your purchase price for this item, plus 10% of your shipping price for this item! All you have to do, is after your purchase, leave a message either in the comment section here or through Etsy, to let me know you saw it here! This offer is only good for today! Check back tomorrow for another "BooDilly's Daily Dilly" special!"

DogStar, Diagrams, and Doll Parts
Hope everyone had a great 4th! Our 4th was a rainy one, but some people still got out and about for Lancaster's First Friday event. I spent the evening with friends and family and other nice folks at DogStar Books for the opening of our art show, (previously posted about here).
Several of us sold some work, (Yay!) and I decided to treat myself to a set of medical text books from 1904 with amazing illustrations!
Forgive me if this is not your thing, (my hubby doesn't get why I would want these) but I have always been attracted to medical illustrations, and am thrilled with my purchase! (Thanks Brian for giving me a good deal!)
And here is today's "BooDilly's Daily Dilly" featured sale item... VINTAGE BISQUE DOLL PARTS:
Great for assemblage and altered art!
Remember, if you buy these Vintage Bisque Doll Parts from my BooDilly's Shop today, July 5th 2008, I will refund you via PayPal, 10% of your purchase price for this item, plus 10% of your shipping price for this item! Life: A Glorious Privilege
This weeks "Everyday Pleasures" post is a little different, as I generally do not think of graveyards as everyday pleasures...
However, last week when forced to take a long detour, off of my chosen regular path, I stumbled upon a very old and beautiful church that beckoned me to stop...
Walking among the tombstones, many of them marked with flags to show those who so bravely fought in our past wars, I thought of this Fourth of July, where once again I am thankful for all of my blessings, but deeply wish to live in a world where war is but a distant memory, and everyone, everywhere, lives in peace, health and prosperity...
May you all have a happy 4th.
The grave of a soldier who fought in the Revolutionary War.
A mother's love and sorrow.
Yes, indeed it is.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Seeing as it is July 4th, I thought the vintage photograph below would be very fitting to post in my shop and offer up for today's "BooDillys Daily Dilly" special.
FOURTH of JULY VINTAGE PATRIOTIC PHOTO:
Based on their clothing I am guessing this photo was taken sometime in the 1910's. Since the little boy, (I love his expression) is holding a flag with 48 stars, it would have also had to been sometime after 1912.
Remember, if you buy this Fourth of July Vintage Photograph from my BooDilly's Shop today, July 4th 2008, I will refund you via PayPal, 10% of your purchase price for this item, plus 10% of your shipping price for this item. All you have to do, is after your purchase, leave a message either in the comment section here or through Etsy, to let me know you saw it here. This offer is only good for today.
