One Week
The events of this week included my youngest finally getting her wisdom teeth out, myself having ocular migraines, rain pouring through the closed windows in our living room, and my husband traveling to be at his mothers bedside, because she is in the process of dying, despite being the picture of health a mere two months ago.
All of this seems to point to a pretty bad week, but in reality my daughter is healing well. I was relieved to find out the strange visual disturbances and pressure behind my eyes were just a migraine and not a retinal tear, as I had feared. I'm blessed with a pretty view as I sop up the water from my leaky windows. And most importantly, my Mother-in-Law in the last days of her life has brought family together who needed to be brought together. She is surrounded by people who love her and will miss her, and in the profound sadness of her passing there is tremendous grace and gratitude for her life.

ReplyDeleteI once had an ocular migraine and it was a very scary experience- I actually thought I was drugged... such a bizarre experience.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about you MIL. I hope the rainbow she's casting continues on.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that things aren't going so smoothly, but touched by how beautifully you regard everything.
Thank you for sharing.
Passages of any kind are so important in the life of a family, glad one is coming together that needed to.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have only migraines and not something more serious but I can relate they are no fun. I liked your article on your baubles, loved seeing that big pile...

That is quite the week. So sorry to hear about your mother-in-law.
ReplyDeleteI've had ocular migraines since junior high. The neurologist told me to me happy that I don't always get the headache part. But it is kind of fun to say that I can see auras when it happens!
Oh BOY. That's a lot to experience in a week. I'm sending your Mother-in-Law some loving beams to ease her transition. I also hope your migrane never comes back! I had migranes as a child and they are horrible! But way to keep a positive attitude, Victoria; you're amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe wouldn't need pincushion if we didn't have the sharp pins to put in them. Life is a bit like that too at times. It's very inspiring to see that when life prods you with pins your response is to make beautiful pin cushions. I hope you have some happier and less stressful times soon.

ReplyDeleteVictoria, The way that you are looking at all the events is something to admire. Most would look at these quite differently. My thoughts are with you and your family for bright days to come and thinking of you in this time of trial.

Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Life rolls in cycles and things will get better - just take one day at a time. The pincushion is wonderful and put a smile on my face. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteThe I--ching defines abundance as "many opportunities for joy and sorrow."
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and your family.
Wow, what a week!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you and your daughter are on the mend and that your mother in law, in her last days, has also done some good..
I'm sure she will be remembered in a wonderful light..peacex
You have such a gift for expressing a range of feelings -- I so often feel like something is wrong with me that I don't automatically see the glass half full... Wouldn't it be nice if such moments were not ALSO full of self-recrimination? It DOES sound like you left the pity party in a very genuine recognition of the good that is around you. Best to you and your husband's family in the poignant time of passing, and hope you and your daughter are well! (PS no glasses on, excuse typos!)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry.
ReplyDeleteIts a sad time.
Those visual migraines can be quite alarming. I used to have them a lot followed by a terrible headache, but not so much now.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law and all the other trials you've had to deal with. You have an amazing strength, and it shows even in your work.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your week but I applaud your attitude! I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a wonderful gift for expressing your feelings and connecting with all of us -- you are in my prayers,
ReplyDeleteDiane
