Colorful Canvas Market Bags

Like so many, we are up to our necks in a constant stream of plastic bags. I used to use canvas shopping bags, but over the years they have gotten old, dirty and misplaced. I've been well aware that it was high time to replace and replenish my supply and get back into a healthy, green shopping habit.

While looking at my lovely Ikea fabrics, (see last post) and wondering what to make from these canvas weight delights, the light bulb went on and I realized they would be perfect for some bright, stylish market bags! Happily I also bought a few yards of sturdy weight solids, perfect for the lining. And joyfully, I have enough fabrics to keep us in a delightful supply of these bright cheery bags!

  1. How cute! I love the cheery prints... definitely going to have to get some fabric next time I'm at Ikea!

  2. Love the colors, they really pop! Ikea has great fabrics, once I conquer the evil Singer and use what I've already accumulated, I'll have a good reason to buy more.

  3. These are so cute! I wish I could sew and make some sweet little bags. I often see gorgeous fabric that I'm wanting to buy and I have to talk myself out of buying it because I know it will just sit in a corner and gather dust! It's fun to scroll back to your previous post to play 'spot the bag before it was a bag' on your washing line. I've had far too much coffee today. Is it obvious? .... xo

  4. My problem is i leave them in the house or in the car and end up getting plastic anyway, but these are so gorgeous how could anyone forget them?

  5. They are so wonderful and Ikea fabrics are just perfect for market bags. I use reusable bags all the time. I keep them in the trunk of my car, so when I am out and about, I just pull them from the trunk and voila ready to use. I think I need to make some stylish ones like yours.
