Keeping it Simple
My hands needed a break from hand stitching, and my mind needed something very straight forward to work on, and so this is what I made...
A very simple table runner made from muslin,
(some of which I hand dyed with coffee, turmeric and walnut ink).
The center strips were torn, and the edges left raw...
The machine stitching consists of closely, but unevenly spaced rows of meandering straight stitch...
The piece was most definitely inspired by the colors and textures which I see on the old, (and once white) barns that I pass everyday.
I think it would lovely on an old wood table.
(Now for sale in my shop).
(Note: Now sold)

ReplyDeleteI think this is wonderful! Very simple and perfect! I enjoy tea staining or coffee staining or anything staining!
ReplyDeleteI too love the barns where we live. I really love the tobacco barns right now, with all of their little doors propped open. Peeking inside and seeing all of the tobacco hanging. I do believe we live in one of the most beautiful places, don't you think?
Simply gorgeous! Is it pieced or did you just sew the unbleached muslin on top?
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's just beautiful. I love the colours and the texture.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone. :0)
ReplyDeleteErin, yes! I love those tobacco barns... they are my favorite this time of year, and I never tire of seeing them with their slats open!
Cheryl, the 2 center strips are just sewn on, no piecing. This kept it super easy, and allowed me to keep the edges frayed, which I wanted.
Yes it's simple, but oh so simply stunning!
ReplyDeleteOH! I just said "OH!" right out loud when I saw this. I LOVE it, Victoria. Just love it!
ReplyDeleteThis one may be my favorite.
Until, of course, the next beautiful thing that you make... ;)

ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful Vic! The fact that it's dyed with coffee makes it even more appealing to me. Being a big coffee addict and all! Seriously, it's really lovely!
ReplyDeleteHeavenly! It looks as if its been woven and the colours are just sublime.
ReplyDeleteI love your table runner - simply stunning!
ReplyDeleteSimple & fabulous! And I love it that you dyed this with natural stuff! Happy weekend !
ReplyDeleteI am inspired that one can quilt without having perfect serged, or hidden, edges and seams. I may try more quilting now, with lots of frayed edges.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks as delicate as an eggshell, so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - this is just lovely! The quilt itself is perfection in its imperfection...and the eggs...a perfect foil for it. Truly - beautiful site to behold!
