Going Inward

Since my last post I have found myself in a very introverted mood. I know why, and won't bore you with the details, but suffice to say that the pojagi work, light and airy in nature, and something that requires me to take lots of back and forth trips from sewing machine to iron to cutting table, just wasn't lining up to how quiet, still and inward I have been feeling.

And so I put the pojagi aside and began to work on some very small pieces that allowed me to just naturally go inward.

Something about just being able to sit at the machine, and 'paint' with little bits of fabric feels more in sync with my current state of being.

So for now, this is where I am. Not sure how long this will last, and am well aware at how swiftly my work can change direction depending upon my moods. Having this blog and sharing what I do makes me at times a bit self conscious about my how fickle I can seem about my work. My hat is off to people who can keep their focus on one area for long periods of time. Despite my best intentions, I obviously am not one of them!

That is what I love about your work. Always changing, always beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Not fickle at all! The opposite, in fact, because you're being true to how you feel. And I have to say, much as I like the pojagi, it was the colourful and heavily stitched work that first brought me to your site, so I've enjoyed these pieces that you've shared today.

These are beautiful pieces -- and I love how they reflect your state of being in that moment...

It's lovely that you honor your inner space with your work. I think that's what gives it such an authentic and appealing nature. These are beautiful little "paintings."

these are all beautiful. I don't think you are fickle at all. You care about what you make, it has a lot of meaning to you, and that comes through in your work. Your pieces are always different yet wholly yours. I love them!

They're stunning!

I agree with Nifty.....you let your feelings inspire your work. It is all so beautiful. I hope all is well with you and yours and like you I give thanks that I have this outlet to help steady me in this world.
I'd like you to look at the work of Rhanna Nyman , I think you can just google her. She works with very tiny bits of fabric and makes breath taking pieces of art.....my friend gifted me with one a few years ago.

Happy Sewing

You are an artist first, not a blogger. I'm just happy you are willing to share your work with us.

Hope all is okay.

I think we all need to take a break and just look at and do different things from time to time. When we come back we are ready to go!
Your little pieces are so cool!

I love what you are working on. I'm pretty fickle myself....I'm starting to embrace that, rather than fight it. I love the energy that comes with working on multiple ideas.

I love your work.

I, too, am an intuitive, emotionally-invested quilter. Learning to listen to myself has been a big part of my quilting journey.

Love the pieces you are doing . . .

Victoria,
Every piece you create somehow tells a story of your emotional journey. I think that is quite valuable.
I have found peace in accepting my moods too. It works miraculously on my creativity..When the time is "right" art happens naturally!
I love what you have created from the space you are in!

Hey Victoria, These are FREAKIN GORGEOUS! I love them!
Good luck with your attention span.
I find that some days I have one and some days it is challenging.
Happy sewing!

The quilt artists David Walker once said that a truly creative mind is evidenced by the act of temporarily leaving a project when you know exactly where it's going and starting something else. I thought it meant that I had attention deficit disorder -- turns out that it shows one's creativity. That's what you're experiencing, I believe -- because I think you have one of the most imaginative minds around.

Lovely work.

Gorgeous! Great colors!

I love Diane's comment. Creativity is demanding - and sometimes it demands that we put down our current project *right now* to try something new or just do what feels right at the time. These pieces are so gorgeous.

Lovely! I also often let my mood dictate what I work on. The project has to "feel right" in order for me to be motivated.

I hope you still don't feel self-conscious about following your creative heart. I am glad you have the inner strength to do so. You're a great example!

I like those pieces.
I can't work on something when i'm not in the mood. If i force myself, it is a complete disaster

These pieces are gorgeous and inspired!.... as it seems all your work is. I'm sure much of that has to do with how your honor your present state of being. It's a beautiful quality that takes great awareness.....
Thank you for sharing.

I don't think of it as fickle at all. That is one of the great things about quilting - there is a kind of work to suit just about any mood. Matching your creativity to how you are feeling is perfect!

Besides, I love everything you do!

I think that we all go through those periods of introversion. But I must say that this period for you is quite inspired. What you are working on is just so beautiful and hopefully reflective of your feelings. Just gorgeous!

These are just so beautiful. The color sense is so exciting and subtle and earthy too. Beautiful blog!

I think that when we're feeling introverted it's difficult to see the connections between anything! The one thing I love about your work is the thread (excuse the pun) that connects them all. It's so easy to see your fascination with texture, simplicity of line and shape, your connection to the faded and worn landscapes around you in every work you make. I think that's the mark of a great artist. Hang in there :)

Beautiful work as always! Isn't it amazing how our moods can influence what we feel like making? I've always considered myself a seasonal quilter-- but I'm variable beyond that as well. Time of day, amount of sleep-- it all influences what I feel like making ;)

The hell with focus...these are beautiful, reflect where you are, and still are uniquely Victoria, the trifecta of awesome art!

Heart felt thanks to all of you. You make me feel less of a flake! I so appreciate all of the support you have given me on this creative journey that we share. xo
