Welcome Home, Ellie Mae!

I am happy to introduce to you the newest member of our family, Ellie Mae.

We adopted Ellie 2 days ago from the Humane League, but due to their policy of spaying the dogs before releasing them, we weren't able to actually bring her home until today.

It has been 6 1/2 months since Mo passed, and I still miss her with all my heart. Everyday I talk to her photo, (and still sometimes cry) I feel Mo around me, and recently started to feel her letting me know that it might be time to welcome a new four footed friend into our home. I think Mo selected Ellie to be our new little love, for all of a sudden on Sunday morning I knew that I must get to the shelter, and so I drove 40 minutes through ice and snow covered roads. Not a rational thing to do, but there she was. I cannot express enough how sweet and laid back Ellie is. Thank you Mo.

Here Ellie Mae is all bundled up waiting for me to get my coat and boots on so we can go outside in the bitter cold... another blizzard is on the way... not a great time to convince a dog that outside going is the best way to go. (Her clothes are made from two recycled shirt sleeves and one sock.)

The shelter's vet estimated her to be 1 year old. She's only 7lbs. 10oz. pounds and apparently is a Dachshund/Chiwawa mix, which I found out is referred to as a "Chiweenie"! She was found wandering the streets of the city where we use to live... now she's a country girl. :0)

What a lucky girl, and what a lucky family! She looks like such a sweetie. I wish I could have a furbaby. I live in an apartment and can't have any. It makes me very sad. Give her hugs and kisses for me. She looks very warm pre-outside.

I need a tissue. Adorable, she is just too adorable. You are one lucky woman to have had Mo and now Ellie Mae. A Chiweenie ... I've never heard of that until now. Love and kisses for all of you.

Oh how wonderful!!! I was only wondering a couple of days ago if you were going to get another dog (there really must've been something in the air!).

Ellie is beautiful, and I'm so glad you adopted her as well. My Lucy dog and Gracie puss are both adopted.

I'm sure sweet Mo would approve. :-)

So sweet just looking at her makes my teeth hurt! A new dog never replaces the ones gone before, but reminds us of their love. You made the right decision.

Okay, that actually makes me tear up a little. My dog passed away in March 2009, and I still miss him like crazy. It's so nice that you and Ellie found each other!

That put both a huge smile on my face and a tear in my eye, what a sweet looking dog! As pretty in natural as in a more burrito-like-how-my-where-are-my-ears attire. I'm sure one could find numerous very silly nicknames for such a sweetie-Ellie-chiweenie ;).

Oh, congratulations on the new baby in the house! I love that you rescued her (I co-own Schnauzer Paws Rescue so it's right up my alley) You get lots of points for that.

I love Chi's --and Dachshunds are great dogs. I call Chi's, Chahooties.

Have fun with the little munchkin.

Ellie Mae is truly adorable! My furbaby, Conner, came to me as a secondhand dog. My friend's sister had gotten him as a puppy and just could not devote enough time to taking care of him. He came to me 5 years ago when he was just a year old, unhousetrained and way too yappy. He is the light of my life now. Your girl is lucky and you will be blessed through giving her a wonderful home.

Yay for Ellie Mae! I've actually been meaning to tell you how much your words of encouragement helped when we found a little pup in the road back in October, and we were trying to decide if we could keep her. Thank you for that and best of luck with all things chiweenie!

I have just caught up with your blog again and am so glad you have another dog. Although I don't have a pet, I could feel your pain when Mo was sick and then no longer here. I hope your little one brings you much joy.
