Giraffe Heads

Last summer I started using small scraps of old doilies, lace and embroidered bits from vintage textiles, and began sewing them together to create new works, such as the one shown above. For lack of a better name I simply call them "Reconstructed Doilies".

The fun part of this process was incorporating all the little motifs I could find, like the bird in the top photo...

and little embroidered flowers...

... and some blue giraffe heads!

If you would also like to have some vintage blue embroidered giraffe heads of your own, (20 to be exact!) today's your lucky day, because they are todays "BooDilly Daily Dilly" item!

If you purchase these 20 Vintage Embroidered Giraffe Head Applique Patches from my BooDilly's Shop from July 16th to July 17th, 2008, I will refund you via PayPal, 10% of your purchase price for this item, plus 10% of your shipping price for this item! All you have to do, is after your purchase, leave a message either in the comment section here or through Etsy, to let me know you saw it here! This offer is only good for the days listed, and only as long as the item is available! Check back on Friday for the next featured Dilly!

Reconstructed doilies? Wow, you're so clever! I've never seen that done before. You've such an amazing imagination & talent. That top doilie (or is it doily?) is so sweet!

I can't conceive of an old embroidery with giraffe heads? Where on earth did you get them?

Wow Victoria, these embroideries are beautiful!!

Good point Jackie! I should have clarified, the giraffe heads were never actually on any previous textiles. I had them loose in a stash of old vintage bits. I got them long ago from an old woman who had run a textile shop. I just thought they were so odd I had to have them!

the texture of those reconstructed doilies is genius, you almost have to call them something greater than doilies...let's see if i can come up with something! :)

Thanks T! if you can come up with a better name I would love it. The word "Doily" drives me nuts, do not care for it at all!
